- TheWorld Bank Africa Gender Innovation Lab (GIL) is seeking a survey firm to conduct two data collection activities foran impact evaluation examining different savings and lendingcriteria within Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) affiliated Women AffinityGroups (WAGs) in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Women considering borrowingfrom the WAGs typically face two key challenges: high equity to loan ratios(around 33%) and short repayment periods (usually within 3 months). These twoconditions limit the size of loans accessible to members and restrict applicationof loans to short maturity activities. Working with the NFWP, we are testingthree new operating approaches: the first relaxes the equity to loan ratio from33% to 20%, the second relaxes the maximum repayment period from 3 months to 5months, while the third relaxes both. The impact evaluation will examineimpacts on saving and lending behaviors, group dynamics and trust, andindividual economic activities.
