  • Tenders are invited for Engagement of Consultancy Service for Phase One Detailed Assessment in Imo, Abia and Delta States. Phase 1 Description of Work: locations and description of infrastructure components from the rapid assessment and predesign documents that have been developed. The descriptions provided are intended for background information and Mercy Corps makes no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy of this information. The Consultant is solely responsible for completing a comprehensive assessment of the existing systems and determining what work shall be required regardless of whether that work is included in this list. ● Abia State; Lot 1 Ubakala Water System o The Ubakala water scheme is located in the city of Umuahia, Abia state. There is an existing water treatment plant that is currently not functioning and has an estimated capacity of 430m3 /d. The plant was designed to treat groundwater from a cluster of boreholes in the area, then pump the treated water to an existing 350m3 elevated storage tank for gravity distribution to the community. o The preliminary scope of work is expected to include: ▪ rehabilitation of existing boreholes, ▪ construction of new boreholes (if needed), ▪ new pumps, motors and controls for boreholes, ▪ rehabilitation of water treatment plant, including ● aeration chamber ● headworks, ● buildings, ● treatment works ● disinfection works ● electro-mechanical works ● pumps ● controls ● piping, valves, and other appurtenances ▪ Power supply ● Generator ● Grid connection including transformer rehabilitation ▪ Rehabilitation of 350 m3 elevated concrete water storage tank ▪ Rehabilitation and/or construction of 5 km of water pipeline ● Abia State; Lot 2 Ariaria Water System o The Ariaria Water System is located in the city of Aba, Abia state. o There is an existing water treatment plant that is currently partially functioning? and has an estimated capacity of 450m3 /d. The plant was designed to treat groundwater from a cluster of boreholes in the area, then pump the treated water to an existing 425m3 elevated steel storage tank for gravity distribution to the community. o The preliminary scope of work is expected to include: ▪ rehabilitation of existing boreholes, ▪ construction of new boreholes (if needed), ▪ new pumps, motors and controls for boreholes, ▪ rehabilitation of water treatment plant, including ● aeration chamber ● headworks, ● buildings, ● treatment works ● disinfection works ● electro-mechanical works ● pumps ● controls ● piping, valves and other appurtenances ▪ Power supply ● Generator ● Grid connection including transformer rehabilitation ▪ Rehabilitation of 425 m3 elevated steel water storage tank ▪ Rehabilitation and/or construction of 20km of water pipeline ● Delta State; Lot 1 Ogwashi Uku Water System he Ogwashi-Uku water system is located in the city of Ogwashi Uku (or Ukwu), Delta state. o There is an existing 675m3 /day water treatment plant that was designed to take raw water from boreholes, provide treatment, and then pump into elevated storage tanks for gravity distribution. The plant recently stopped working. One borehole pumps to an elevated water tank within the scheme premises and distributes by gravity to the city center, while the other borehole pumps water to an elevated 10m3 tank located at the general hospital Ogwashi-Ukwu and also distributes to city center by gravity. o The preliminary scope of work is expected to include: ▪ rehabilitation of existing boreholes, ▪ construction of new boreholes (if needed), ▪ new pumps, motors and controls for boreholes, ▪ rehabilitation of water treatment plant, including ● aeration chamber ● headworks, ● buildings, ● treatment works ● disinfection works ● electro-mechanical works ● pumps ● controls ● piping, valves and other appurtenances ▪ Power supply ● Generator ● Grid connection including transformer rehabilitation ▪ Rehabilitation of 675 m3 elevated concrete water storage tank ▪ Construction of new 25m3 elevated water storage tank (if required all specifications including size, will be developed by the consultant), ▪ Rehabilitation and/or construction of 10km of water pipeline ● Imo State; Lot 1 Otamiri Water System o The Otamiri water system is located in Owerri, Imo state. o There is an existing 60,000m3 /day water treatment plant that was designed to take raw water from the Otamiri river, provide treatment and disinfection, and then pump into elevated storage tanks for gravity distribution. The existing plant has recently undergone improvements enabling it to operate at approximately 30% capacity. Water is distributed to storage tanks throughout the system by booster pump stations. o The preliminary scope of work is expected to include: ▪ rehabilitation of existing surface water intake, ▪ rehabilitation of water treatment plant, including ● Sedimentation basin, ● Flocculation basin, ● buildings, ● Filters Brief Summary Description of Project: The Small-Town Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (STWASH) Activity is a five-year, initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), covering the states of Adamawa, Yobe, and Borno in Northeast Nigeria. The Activity is to support the sustainable improvements in access to basic water and sanitation that are necessary to facilitate ongoing recovery, peacebuilding, and economic development across the region. The goal of the program is to facilitate the economic recovery of some crisis-affected communities and bolster the capacity of the state governments in providing essential WASH services and creating and sustaining enabling environments for Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agencies (STWSSAs) and Water Consumers Associations (WCAs) to operate effectively. The program has two broad components; expanded access to water and for sanitation facilities and strengthening capacity for small town water governance. Mercy Corps chooses to hold competitive proposals for the selection of consultancy firm (s) who will implement our requirements.
